150 take to water

MORE than 150 enthusiastic youngsters have taken to the water in Port Lincoln to learn to swim over the next nine days, as part of the Homestart Vacswim program.
Homestart Vacswim began on Monday, with about 150 local children making waves at local swimming spots.

Vacswim instructor Angela Burgess said there were eight classes in Port Lincoln, with some being held at the beach near the town jetty and others at the Port Lincoln Leisure Centre.

Ms Burgess said children could be examined for their swimming skills as part of the program, with certificates in swim and survival, bronze medallions and advanced senior lifesaving qualifications on offer.

All classes will be held every morning for the next nine days, from 9am to 12pm at the Leisure Centre and 1pm to 4pm at the beach.

Children enrolled in Vacswim are school age, between the ages of about five and 16.
