Border Watch (January 23rd)

Vacswim success

Sir, The 1998 Home Start Vacswim swimming and water safety program was very successful.
Seventy-two instructors, with 24 assisting, instructed about 2800 students in our area.
From the initial water confidence right through to the higher awards of the RLSSA.
It is a worthwhile program and should improve the general outlook on water safety and water awareness.

The area covered by the regional coordinator includes: Beachport, Bordertown, Coomandook, Coonalpyn, Geranium, Keith, Kingston S.E., Lameroo, Lucindale, Millicent, Mount Gambier (Waterhole and Aquatic Centre), Naracoorte, Penola, Pinnaroo, Robe, Southend and Tintinara.

Ten examiners of the Royal Lifesaving Society, spread throughout the area, are `doing the final exam for the higher awards of the society.

The instructors and examiners maintain a high standard with their work and it is a pleasure to work with such a good team.

G.H. Krueger, Regional Co-ordinator. Bordertown.
